New York City. A place where your dreams can come true, whilst simultaneously ramming through the crowds of people as you make your way to work. Being from a place like this, I remind myself that I have to give myself grace on the days where I am winding down, calming myself, recharging my batteries for another day. It’s so easy to feel like a burden when you’re not on the go. I think it’s about time we take the pressure off of ourselves! Even as I write this, I think: What the fuck are you talking about?! Move! And that right there is the key to it all. Either move out of the way or keep away for the time being. We all deserve a moment of quietness in all the madness that ensues around us.
Don’t get me wrong, I love being part of a city such as New York. It has given me the bones that keep me running, breezing along the streets of Midtown Manhattan, hoping that I don’t bump into anyone that I knew from a past life. I am thrilled to say that I am part of a seemingly undying culture – one that praises the psychos and misfits. I know about that New York attitude that foreigners talk about. I have it but not my choice. We are born and bred for this type of thing, the world that remains unforgiving in all its whimsy. This doesn’t take away from the pressure that we may experience, knowing that we have to take care of our families and do what we can to make ends meet. Take the pressure off yourself because it counts for something. It makes me wonder – Don’t we all worry about these same things? It may be taboo but we reserve the right to speak on a trivial subject like the pressures of the world.
I run along and keep my tail straight, knowing that tomorrow is not promised but that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t tell myself that I am a human being who deserves a moment of peace. Are we all just trudging along or is there is some future that we are all destined for? I am sure there is. All is by design and nothing else. We are not just cogs in the machine, or so we tell ourselves, because if we did then where would the fun be? Let’s take the pressure off our minds and enjoy the Summer as it lays before us. The sun shines on us all, giving us the vitamins that we wait for through the harsh winters that last way too long. We are not just existing, we are present in every way that we allow ourselves to. Remind yourself that we are allowed the grace that flows through the merciful angels that hover above us.
